A Dog's Tail

This is a picture of my two dogs Yukon (the lab) and Daphne (the rat terrier). The back story of this whole thing is J and I went to "look at" German Shepherds 9 years ago. I don't like the Shepherds (I don't like dogs with pointy ears because I fear they are thinking about eating me), so I agreed to "look". While we were there, the breeder (who truth be told was a backyard breeder) had Mastiffs. We did not realize that she was a bad breeder as young and dumb first time dog buyers. We fell in love with the Mastiffs, AKA Gentle Giants and bought one. We named her Guinness and she grew at a fast pace. We loved her but soon thought the idea of having a second dog that she could play and cuddle with was fantastic. I always wanted a Golden Retriever and J doesn't like the fur.

In our travels we moved from the backyard breeder to the puppy mill type place where they sell lots of puppies of all different varieties. We fell in love with Yukon, the lab, and brought him home. His playful personality and desire to play with Guinness soon brought out the opposite of what we were looking for and she got ornery. This increased slowly over time. Before we moved into our current house, we lived with my parents for a short time and it was the beginning of the end. Guinness attacked Yukon so badly we had to put her down.

We were down to one dog...and why oh why was that not good enough? After a while we decided a second dog was a GREAT idea. I lobbied hard for a chocolate lab but J didn't want two big dogs again. So we looked for an athletic, non frufee small dog. We discovered the Rat Terrier and finally found Daphne. I won't get into the shady person we were first going to buy from and the long drive to OH from Mass.

Now we have the two. Daphne drives me CRAZY and Yukon is getting old. He has something going on with his back legs. He isn't in pain (that he expresses) but he is hesitant to lie down and it takes him a bit to get back up. We bought pills for his joints that has seemed to help a bit.

It makes me sad because he is such a good dog but hopefully his pills will help him and he will have many more years with us!

I need a vaction

Thank goodness vacation week is over. Hannah had four parties this week, we visited a friend on Monday and we hit Claytime on Thursday. Thankfully the weather got REALLY nice on Friday (finally and well appreciated). The weekend it actually still warm and Hannah and I hit some yard sales with my mom on Saturday. On Sunday AM I went to a tradeshow and then dropped Hannah off at a birthday party.

The temps today were great! Hannah was off to school and J and Hunter went down to the Cape. I was left all by myself! I did get some work down which was fantastic. I picked Hannah up from school, we went off to Daisys and capped the night off with the park.

Everyone is down and quiet. Soon Hunter and J will be home and one more bottle and two more down.

Thank goodness for the weather finally! I started the day early with the town wide yard sale. Hannah rode her bike (quite a new and impressive feat for her!), I pushed Hunter and my mother walked. I enjoyed an iced coffee along the way, and although it was chilly when we started it was H O T by the time we finished. I visited my friend L who I haven't seen in a while and came home and did some things around the house.

One of those things was the laundry. I ACTUALLY almost caught up...almost! The warmth and fresh air just helps me feel more productive. I can feel summer just around the corner!!!!

Encyclopedia of Crafts

I just picked up Martha's new book and I am very excited. I LOVE the idea of crafts and am AMAZED at what people can do. This is one thing, I swear ONE day I will do...NO really! I would love to be saavy and post the picture of the book, except I can't for the LIFE of me figure that out...
